Home Learning becomes more popular
What is Home Learning?
Home learning is the general concept of learning at your own pace and in your own time at home using correspondence type resource material, or CD/DVD media or online web based learning where additionally, with specific training companies, some tutor support is available via an online system (email or instant messaging).
Why is Learning from Home becoming more popular?
- Courses are more cost effective than classroom/instructor-led training
- Students can study when and where they want to
- If the student doesn’t understand a particular concept or section of the course, they can go over the course material as many times as they wish until they are happy
- Now there is a huge variety of courses that can be studied from home so anyone can find a course that suits them (years ago a lot of courses would only be available as classroom courses)
- Due to the computer being more and more part of normal family and business life, people are more comfortable with and happy to use them for all aspects of their life from paying bills, keeping their finances up-to-date or learning something new. Kids are being introduced to them very early on in schools and so are not phased by them – the wide range of kids educational software and learning games now available juts shows how big an industry just that one part of home learning has become.
When is Home Learning convenient?
- When you cannot practically commute to a place of study
- Travel costs are high to commute to a place of study
- Accommodation costs may be required - courses that are more than one day long may require you to stay overnight or several days in a hotel
- the student prefers this method of study (self-paced)
Should everyone learn from home?
Anyone, no matter what age, can learn from home, but it may not suit all students:
- some students prefer to be in a classroom environment where they have direct access to their tutor and the other students in the class for the duration of the course
- immediate questions the student has can not be answered (though some home learning methods can optionally have remote tutor support)
- the student prefers this method of study (instructor-led)
What kind of home learning is available?
You can choose from the following types of training courses:
Correspondence Courses - popular courses available from Beauty Therapy, Child Day Care, Motorcycle Maintenance, PC Basics to Teaching Assistant and much more.
CD Training – best selling CD-ROM courses available from MS Office 2003, CompTIA A+, Cisco CCNA to MCSE 2003
DVD Training – best selling DVD-ROM courses available from MS Office 2007, MS Project 2007 to Windows Vista
