Careers IT Manager
If you think you would like to know more about a career in IT Management then here is some information on the position and what IT training courses may assist you obtain it:
An IT Manager will need to support and manage both their staff and their IT Infrastructure. They will need the following attributes:
- Knowledge of managing / implementing business systems, and technical and service delivery functions.
- Technical Knowledge of data centre and networks
- Ability to liaise at all levels including board level.
- Good man management skills
- Good project management skills
Technical knowledge should be in the following areas:
Hardware – both PC and Networking knowledge would be required at least at a basic level so courses such as the CompTIA A+ training and CompTIA Network+ training are ideal. Obviously any additional expertise and training such as Cisco Courses would be highly beneficial to the individual considering a career as an IT Manager.
Software – both Operating Systems and specific application training would be advantageous so courses such as the MCDST training, MS Office Training and Windows Server Training are perfect for the future IT Manager.
Management training should be in the following areas:
People – skills with dealing with and managing people are very important for any kind of manager so the courses that would be appropriate are Team Leadership courses, Management Training and Leadership Skills Course.
Projects – the ability to manage projects within set timescales and budgets is also a vital part of being an IT Manager and so the following courses would be appropriate: Project Management Training, PMP Training and Project 2007 Training
Processes and procedural training should be covered by ITIL training (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) and ITSM training (Information Technology Service Management). You can find out more about this on my previous post for ITIL Training Course.
