Childcare Careers
Find out about what it takes to gain a career in child care.
Now is a great time to look into a career in childcare as there are lots of training options and many places to gain valuable work experience of working with kids. People of all ages and sexes now (childcare has always traditionally been carried out by young to middle aged women) want a career that involves the caring for and the development of children.
If you are enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and have a great deal of patience and understanding, then a child care career might be just what you are looking for. If you feel you have these attributes, then what should you do next?
You could start by gaining some experience working (either voluntarily or as a paid member of staff) in a local nursery or playgroup. You can then see if working with children is right for you. You can then apply for a permanent role that could be full or part-time. Once you have gained the appropriate skills, experience and in most cases a certification in the form of an examination, you could consider running your own childminding business or child day care business.
You can study for a variety of courses such as Child Day Care Course, Child Psychology Course or Starting Your Own Childminding Business.
